Free Higher Education
From Kalpulli Community
For three years, the Minister of Culture and her friends have been working on a documentary to explore free higher education in the Twin Cities in depth. Kalpulli members have been involved for years: Eric has taught Unix and C Programming classes, Rebecca has taught classes on indigenous history, memoir and collage, and now radical media-making, and Ray has taught classes on black folk culture, indigenous history and deconstructing The Godfather.
Check out their classes this spring semester, as listed on the Experimental College website:

WHAT IS EXCO?
The Experimental College (EXCO) is a collective of Experimental Colleges in the Twin Cities that share common visions for a better world and offer free and open classes to the public. EXCO strives to offer Twin Cities’ communities the opportunity to teach or learn in a space open to alternative education and all kinds of knowledge, particularly those that have been historically marginalized. At EXCO, everyone can teach or take classes, and all classes are free.
Offering free classes open to everyone, the Experimental Collge or EXCO is dedicated to transforming education on the principle that everyone can teach or take classes and all classes are free.
EXCO is always looking for new facilitators. Think about becoming a facilitator and contact us with ideas or questions. Also, read about past teachers' experience.
Classes may take place anywhere around the Twin Cities, we strongly encourage you to find space in your neighborhood such as at your local library, community center, coffee shop, conference rooms, etc. We are also glad to help you brainstorm spaces or reserve space for you on college campuses where we have chapters (currently this is doable at Macalester and the U of M).
EXCO classes open seasonally, with new classes beginning to start up in September, February, and June, but the best time for classes to begin is what works for you and those who will be taking them. Most classes run between 3 and 12 weeks meeting once a week for 2 hours, though again that is open to your desires and experiments!
Please check the web site for application deadlines. You can always submit a class, anytime, but we do have deadlines for class budgets and space reservation.
