A Personal Appeal
From Kalpulli Community
Dear friends, as our society inexorably moves towards corporate fascism, some of us are increasingly being singled out for what I’m going to call a kind of passive persecution. The ruling classes have tried assassination, they’ve tried McCarthyism, but at this juncture of our sad history, there are far more subtle ways for the Corporatocracy to exercise its evil will. It is not my wish to whine—but there are those who are political prisoners, such as Leonard Peltier and Mumia Abu-Jamal, and there are those of us who have simply been placed by contrived circumstances out of sight, and out of mind. It is embarrassing for me to share the following with you:
Just as public broadcasters, environmental organizations,
and other enterprises put out a call for financial help, I am forced
after more than 40 years of activism to do the same thing.
Due to employment discrimination, a bureaucracy which is as malignant and dug in as anything you could imagine, and very real hostility within the academic community to an interdisciplinary curriculum I’ve been working on for 14 years, I am financially dead in the water.
Quite frankly if there’s anyone out there who is relatively well-situated, every little bit would help. From a dollar to five thousand dollars.
Ironically, I take responsibility as founder and director of an organization dedicated to helping others to stand on their own two feet. Yet, I’m calling out to all of you with a mixed sense of embarrassment and humility, for basic help.
Let me get specific: as a testament to our broken health care system, I recently received excellent dental care which ended up costing about $26,000. Insurance covered all but $2,800. I agreed to pay the $2,800 on the assumption that I’d get a teaching job at a private university here in Minnesota. The position never came through; other related and unrelated possibilities never came to pass, and now I am pulling out all the stops to find the resources to take care of my end of the obligation.
Were this a civilized country such as Canada or Norway, this issue never would’ve come up.
In addition, making long-distance phone calls is no longer possible, because the Credo company has cut me off for failure to pay my bills.
I guess what I am asking is the following: please help, that I may help.
Our organization is looking for funds, as you will learn if you read through our website, and acting on the advice of one of my colleagues, I want to keep my personal appeal separate.
Finally, let me throw out the basics hoping that somebody will respond:
My name is Ray Tricomo, I live at
6276 12 St. N., Apt. 210,
Oakdale, Minnesota,
55128.
My email is rtricomo@yahoo.com
My phone number: +1-651-714-0288
If it’s all the same to everybody, I would like to hear from those who have visited our website
and who have read this personal letter, and who can help without strings. This is not a scam, it is every bit the same as any organization or person trying to raise funds for good reasons. Some of our candidates for public office have succeeded enormously, raising money online.
--Only to let us down later.
To paraphrase an old blues singer friend of mine, I will let no one down. Please help that I may help! Thank you in advance.
