Unpacking the Supreme Court
From Kalpulli Community
Unpacking the Supreme Court and other matters Letter from the Founder Dear relatives everywhere, unfortunately, this commentary begins with sad notes. Number 1, our collective heart goes out to the people of Haiti-- what they’ve just been through and are still going through. Haiti has been to hell and back many times, beginning in 1492 with Columbus, and continuing under French occupation, followed by more than 2 centuries of abuse by the US, France, and the other usual suspect. In addition, those Haitians who chose to be colonized have acted against their own people. Kalpulli Turtle Island Multiversity is calling for the unconditional return of the only decent leader Haiti had in a long time: namely President John Bertrand Aristide. His party, Lavalaz, must be restored, whether the US likes it or not. Secondly, let us extend unlimited sympathy to the loved ones of Brother Howard Zinn. Dr. Zinn was called to the spirit world on Wednesday, January 27. For those of us who believe in real history, as opposed to fairy tales, Howard will live forever. When he appeared in Minnesota last May, to celebrate his People’s History of the US, 2 members of the Governing Council of Kalpulli Turtle Island Multiversity got to see and hear him. They were the Environment Minister and myself. Once again, Howard will live forever, even as he joins Uncle Karl Marx, Crazy Horse, and the whole gang of real revolutionaries. Now let us turn to the most evil decision handed down to the US Supreme Court since the Dred Scott decision of 1857. I am of course referring to the opinion that in effect gives unlimited power to what Dr. David C. Korten calls The Corporatocracy. Brother Mike Malloy said it best on his progressive radio program: between Dec. 12, 2000 and Jan. 21, 2010, democracy effectively died in the US. My relatives let us begin with the premise that we’ve lost. In plain English, we’ve had our asses kicked. We’ve got to start all over again. One thing the Left has never understood is that we are on a rotten foundation. It is a foundation of exceptionalism, and every other negative -ism you can name, including imperialism. We can fight and fight until hell freezes over, and we will do nothing but lose because that Columbian thing is still very much with us.
I am of course referring to the ethic started by Christopher Columbus, the great granddaddy of organized crime. Brother Russell Means, one of the founders of the American Indian Movement, said it best, in a speech given to the International Indian Treaty Council in 1980. The title: “For the World to Live, Columbus must die.” My relatives, Kalpulli Turtle Island Multiversity, like the Zapatistas, like the Bolivian revolution, is a bottom-up organization. We are about building a movement form the bottom up, so powerful and unstoppable that it will be in a position to bite the empire on the backside with such force that the world will wonder where it went. For openers, we need to build a people’s lobby that is a multifaceted people’s enterprise, consisting of no less than a 150 million children, women and men, who are prepared with nonviolence to go to the streets and fight, literally, and force the US to do what it doesn’t want to do.
That is to say, end its addiction to war, abolish what Noam Chomsky calls the National Security State,
and remove the 5 reactionaries now sitting on the US supreme court. Including: Sammy Alito, Clarence Kennedy, Anthony Kennedy, Don Roberts, and the worst of the worst, the Coup-maker, the fascist Antonin Scalia. Let me say a few things about this man who is a personal embarrassment for me, as a Sicilian –American. Just as Scalia’s parents came from Sicily, Senota Scalia, to her credit, worked for the New York City library system. That’s fine. His dad however, was a committed member of the American Branch of Mussolini’s fascists. The kid was sent to an ideologically oriented school, and he learned his lessons well. On Dec. 12, 2000, Scalia led the charge of what could only be called a judicial coup-de-tat, when G.W. Bush was rammed down our throats and the Florida recount was stopped. The events of Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010 have brought things to a head. Either we start taking this country back, or I for one will be accused of committing the penultimate act of self-indulgence by going into exile. For too long the Supreme Court has been one of the more blunt instruments of the ruling classes. They’ve had their bright moments, such as their decision on desegregation in May 1954, their decision recognizing a woman’s right to control her own body in January 1973... However, with the packing of the court that we’ve seen at the hands of G.W. Bush, it’s clear that we’re going to have to unpack and repack the court with lawyers, now judges, who have principles and progressive ideals in their DNA. Let the crazies on the right throw one of their little fits about judicial activism. What we witnessed on January 21 was the toxic side of judicial activism. We are at a crossroads, either we’re going to get radical and reinvent this society, or we’re going to descend into the inescapable black hole of fascism. so-called justices Scalia, Kennedy, Thomas, Alito, Roberts, have to go. They have to go yesterday. Once again, Kalpulli Turtle Island Multiversity is inviting the world of individuals to get involved. If each person who can afford it would send $1 to this project, we could begin the important work on the entire waterfront, from ecological restoration, to social, political activism, in order to bring about a macrocosmic change which cannot be reversed. Kalpulli Turtle Island Multiversity P.O. Box 28152 St. Paul, MN 55128 U.S.A. Let me now turn to our final point in this piece of correspondence. Regarding President Barak Hussein Obama, there are 2 possibilities and I’d like to invite all of you to participate in a substantive conversation about both. Our mass movement could do the following:
- 1, let us start emailing and calling the White House for the purpose of FORCING Obama to get rid of the worst of his appointees. Mainly Mr. Rahm Emmanuel. By his own admission, Rahm Emmanuel hates progressives. He’s even used the f-word to describe us. When he was working in the Clinton campaign of 1992, some liberals tried to reason with him. After using the f-word, he slammed a steak knife into the table where he was sitting. Rahm Emmanuel virtually tells Obama when to go to the restroom. People’s power should forcibly remove him from his position as White House Chief of Staff. We must ask ourselves what it is in Obama’s pathology that he can’t find it in his heart or mind to do anything principled. He is G.W. Bush with African roots. Being a person who loves to be wrong, we have the option of putting so much pressure on him that he fundamentally changes his policies. For starters, he must be forced to get rid of Rahm Emmanuel, Tim Geithner, Larry Summers, who infamously said that women don’t make good scientists, Hillary Clinton, who’s never seen a principle she liked, Susan Rice, ambassador to the UN, and every other burn-out from the Clinton era. He needs to reinstate Brother Van Jones, one of this few decent appointments.
- 2 If he doesn’t do these things, and if he doesn’t get out of Afghanistan and Iraq, here’s the other option:
We at KTIM are hoping to acquire the Skype system. This organization will offer its services so that the following people can talk with each other about 1 person running for President in 2012 who is principled and progressive. We are asking that everybody put their egos aside. We don’t need 6 truckloads of candidates running for the same office.. Let’s get behind 1 woman or man who would be willing to have a serious run for the office in 2012 if O. doesn’t clean up his act. Let the conversation begin now. We need to hear from millions, in fact, billions around the world. Quite frankly we need a President, members of the Senate and House, & justices on the Supreme Court, who are at the level of Evo Morales, Presidente of Bolivia. However, we’ve got to get out of this accursed Messiah-complex. No one person on a white horse is going to come and wipe our noses for us. We need to get unanimously involved in reinventing not only this country, but the world. It’s not only Columbus who must die, but metaphorically that other personal embarrassment for this Italian-American, Nicola Machiavelli. Business as usual will simply not be tolerated another second, or another further, as my African American brothers say it so eloquently. Our revolution has to start somewhere. So I call upon all of you to respond, not only with your emails and phone calls, but with your dollars if you can afford them.
I make the offer to start lecturing around the world
to get the ball rolling in terms of changing the narrative and changing the conversation. We can do infinitely better than we’re doing now. The age of impunity or business as usual must come to an end. Nothing less will do. Thank you for considering and hopefully responding to these remarks.
These are my words and I take full responsibility for them.
We thank you and I remain respectfully yours, Ray Tricomo. You can reach us at kalpulli@kalpulli.net or rtricomo@yahoo.com.
